If you need reasons to go to the gym, chances are you’re lazy. But don’t worry, I won’t judge you. Everyone needs some motivation every once in a while. Even though you might be slacking on the gym going, statistically speaking you’re not alone. About 67% of people who have gym memberships never use them and those who do go to the gym, average only around 2 times a week (via statisticbrain).
With that being said, you’re probably still wondering what I can say to convince you to get your ass in the gym. Well don’t worry I’m about to outline 10 awesome reasons to go to the gym.
Protein. Let’s talk about the supplement you always hear about inside and outside of the gym. It seems to be the supplement everyone uses most, but is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Does protein actually work? What does it do? It’s time we really look at this famous nutrient and figure out what it actually does for our body.
Generally speaking as humans, we need protein. Period. However, if you are lifting on a regular basis and are not getting enough protein through food or supplementation, you could be damaging your muscles by starving them of this essential muscular building block.
Lifting is important, but what’s even more important is your diet. If you want to maximize your gains in the gym, then you need to be eating the right meals. Not just any meal, you need to be eating meals for weight lifters (yes they exist). Once you get your diet in sync with your lifting, you will see a noticeable difference in your results. Who doesn’t want awesome results? If you’re going to do something, do it right. Don’t half ass it. What’s the point in that? Eating right isn’t just good for gaining muscle, it’s just plain healthy. You only get one body(YOGOB), don’t screw it up feeding it unhealthy crap.
So, you’ve joined the gym and you are going a few times per week but have absolutely no idea what to do. You probably feel overwhelmed and out of place. You’re also probably a little self conscious and afraid to try the workouts you see everyone else doing. You feel like you might screw them up and look like an idiot.
Well, I used to feel the same way. You are not alone. However, once I learned a few things and gained some confidence all those fears quickly disappeared and I was focused on myself. I started to care less and less what other people in the gym thought about me. There’s so much to learn when you first start lifting. Trust me I know it can be overwhelming, but hopefully with these few tips you will have an idea of what to do as soon as you walk in the door. That way you can maximize your time in the gym and as a result maximize your gains as well. Continue reading →
